  • Bill of materials — the electronics and housing. Relays and contactors, capacitors, the controller board, cable and connector, enclosure material and thickness. This is where the real product lives, and where most of the price difference hides.
  • Certification amortization — a compliant product carries IEC 61851 testing, EMC tests and CE documentation costs. A serious factory spreads these across production; a corner-cutter skips them and wins on price until customs or a market surveillance authority stops the goods.
  • Configuration-specific costs — cable length and cross-section, plug type (Type 2, Schuko, UK), rated current variant, single vs three-phase. The same platform produces a cheap and an expensive product depending on these choices.
  • Packaging — retail-grade color boxes cost more than plain master cartons. If you sell through installers, plain packaging may be an easy saving; if you sell to end consumers, packaging is part of the product.

An FOB quote will always look cheapest. It is not — you simply receive the freight and duty bills later, from other parties. Build a simple comparison table before the next negotiation call. For each supplier, fill in:

  3. Same incoterm, same port — convert both to landed cost per unit.
